About the Role
The Anglican Diocese of Brisbane is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional for the role of the Director of Professional Standards, to be based in the Cathedral Precinct on Ann St in Brisbane.
As the Director of Professional Services, you will be accountable to the Professional Standards Committee and will be responsible for the application and monitoring of the Professional Standards Canon and the Protocol for Dealing with Complaints.
More specifically, some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Receiving information as defined in the Professional Standards Canon on behalf of the Professional Standards Committee;
- Dealing with complaints made under the Professional Standards Canon and the Protocol for Dealing with Complaints;
- Designing and implementing systems which provide and support a safe environment;
- Training clerical and lay people in the Protocol and safe ministry policies and procedures;
- Managing issues from institutional complainants outside the Canon and the Protocol;
- Providing advice and support to the Diocese and to the Archbishop in all matters under the Canon;
- Ensuring the implementation of the Canon and Protocol and related policies as ratified by Archbishop-in-Council; and
- Supporting and overseeing the implementation of Diocesan policies in parishes, schools and agencies.
To be successful in this position, you will be a university graduate, with qualifications in psychology, education, social work, law, counselling or a related discipline, with a well developed understanding of the ethos and governance of the Anglican Church. You will hold registration in Queensland for disciplines to which registration applies, and ideally, you will possess 10 years experience in your field, along with Membership to your appropriate professional association.
In this role, you will need to be professionally presented and credible. You will also need to be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the needs of people affected by abuse, harassment and misconduct and the profile of people perpetrating such behaviour, and a sound understanding of the legal, ethical and moral responsibilities associated with handling information about abuse, harassment and misconduct.
The Anglican Diocese of Brisbane is seeking someone with high ethical standards and a passion for operational excellence, who possesses the ability to self manage and complete admin related tasks. You'll also need exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to educate and train, and to relate effectively with all kinds of people.
In addition, you will require a Positive Police Check, a current Blue Card and positive suitability notice from the Commissioner for Children and Young People, and a current diver's licence.
